A week later, Dev was no closer to figuring out how he’d lost control of the situation between him and Val.

Oh, it wasn’t a total loss, of course. During the day, he managed to retreat behind his wall of control enough that he felt as though he had some semblance of power. But at night, the rules changed. In their home, in their bed, Valerie was a siren he couldn’t resist.The woman he’d once considered to be too shy and timid to ever capture his attention was slowly but surely driving him to distraction. And he couldn’t figure out why.

There had to be a reason behind her transformation.

She had to have some sort of scheme in mind.

All he had to do was figure out what it was.

The problem in that was that he had too much work to do to spend enough time trying to decipher the reasons behind Valerie’s complete turnaround.

But at least he had the satisfaction of knowing that at work he was in charge. In control. At the office he knew where he stood. Knew what was expected of him. Knew what to demand from everyone around him.

At home, things were different.

It wasn’t just his wife that was new and improved. She’d made so many changes around his house, he could hardly keep up with them all.

In the last few days alone, he’d arrived home to find new furniture in the living room, a new bed in his bedroom and a new stove in the small kitchen he’d hardly used before bringing Val back where she belonged.

Now, not only was she cooking nearly every night, she had him helping her. Val had him making dinner with her every night. He was slicing onions, marinating steaks…and he was enjoying all of it. Not just the cooking, but spending time with her, listening to her laughter, watching her eyes shine when she was having fun.

Shaking his head, he turned his back on his office, on the stacks of correspondence and financial papers he still had to deal with, and stared instead out the windows at the bustling studio going about its business.

Not many people could see what he did at work every day. Extras walked around in full costume, everything from the carolers working on The Christmas Wish to what looked like a space alien sucking down a trendy coffee drink through a straw so he wouldn’t mess up his dripping fangs.

It was a weird world Dev lived in and he loved it. Knew it. Appreciated it for what it was.

It was his home life that had him half crazed.

“That’s a hell of a thing,” he muttered, still not quite sure how she’d managed to turn his whole damn life upside down over the course of one short week.

Shaking his head, he let his mind wander back over the last several days. He found himself hurrying home from work now rather than looking for an excuse to stay late at the office. And every time he walked through the doors of their suite, he found something new waiting for him.
